What is Art Therapy?Art therapy uses art materials to explore experiences, thoughts, and feelings that may be difficult to otherwise put into words. Using art materials in a therapeutic setting provides an opportunity to view a problem or issue from a new perspective; integrate life experiences; and develop healthy coping skills and focus.  In an Art Therapy session, a client may work towards a goal, help move through transitions or explore an issue that they may be having trouble dealing with. It is not about a finished product, but rather, it is all about the art making process. It may include something as simple as a squiggle drawn on to paper, or a form or shape made with clay.

Who is Art Therapy for?Art Therapy is being used within the Mental Health sector with children, teenagers, youth, adults and the elderly, with great success. It is used with children with ASD, ADHD and Learning Difficulties.  Art Therapy can be useful for general well-being, managing chronic illness, stress management, working through transitions and working towards any goals or through issues. Art Therapy really is for everyone!
